Nervous vs Excited

| James Riley |

Earlier this year, in a blog titled “Here’s to the Crazy Ones”, I discussed our approach to failure and our attitude towards it. There is an insightful video from Simon Sinek, along the vein of thinking, about training your mind to perform under pressure, and I wanted to share it with you.

In the video, Simon explains how the symptoms of our heart racing, visualizing the future, and our hands getting clammy are signs that appear both when we are nervous and when we are excited. Elite athletes have the ability to rewire their brains to interpret these signs as excitement rather than nervousness. By changing our perspective on failure, anxiety, and similar feelings, we can unlock incredible opportunities.

This concept is particularly relevant in the IT industry, where high-pressure situations are common. By viewing these moments as exciting challenges rather than nerve-wracking obstacles, we can enhance our performance and seize new opportunities.

Check out the video below and see what you think. If you would like to revisit the previous blog, you can click HERE to read “Here’s to the Crazy Ones”.
