Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (aka. BCDR) is about much more than just having backups. (Though we do handle your backups for you.) BCDR is really about the first word in its name…business. While IT plays a critical role, that role is driven and defined by your business priorities and values.
The start of BCDR planning is defining what business assets and services you have. From there, we prioritize them to ensure we focus our time and money on what is most important to your business.
With those priorities, we work alongside you to develop strategies and tactics for dealing with various failures and types of incidents then implement solutions that help protect the things that matter most to you.
While it is easy to think of BCDR as just backups, which are absolutely an important part of your BCDR strategy, it goes far beyond that. Below are some examples of things we can work with you to plan for:
- Data Loss – Either accidental or malicious, we need to be able to recover lost data—usually from backups.
- Cloud Provider Failure – Whether it is the cloud provider going out of business or just having a data loss event of their own, we help you understand your risks and explore options to mitigate them.
- Prolonged Internet or Power Outage – Solutions can vary here depending on whether your data is in the cloud or on-premise, how tied your services are to a specific facility, etc. We can look at solutions as simple enabling remote work to installing redundant internet and power systems.
- Critical Person Loss – Whether this is a key internal person, a key provider or something else, these losses can have a significant impact on your business.
- Insurance Evaluation – We are NOT insurance brokers but we can work with you to evaluate your insurance policies, understand what is and isn’t covered and review what your policies expect of you. This last part can be critical as, if you aren’t doing what is expected, you could find yourself with a denied claim.
- Risk Acceptance – Ultimately, we can’t mitigate all risk. The most dangerous risk is the risk you are exposed to but don’t know it. We work with you to make sure that we shine light on as many risk areas as possible you can make informed decisions about what to mitigate and what to accept.
